New Sigur Ros LP In The Works
"For a while, Sigur Rós were totally and completely reliable-- they'd release a brain-busting album, spend three years consulting with their mystic muses (or whatever) and then release another brain-busting album that was pretty similar to the previous one. But then came last year's uncharacteristically wily Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust, and now the Icelandic group are doing all sorts of exciting things all at once.
There's lead singer Jónsi's upcoming solo album featuring work from Nico Muhly, along with his ambient record with boyfriend Alex Somers, Riceboy Sleeps. And now we get word of an honest-to-goodness new Sigur Rós LP, currently brewing at the band's studio in Álafoss, Iceland, according to a post on their website. Details are scarce at the moment, but phrases like "slower," "more ambient," and "more out there" are being thrown around. The new LP is due out sometime next year."

Ian Curtis: July 15, 1956 – May 18, 1980
Bio:
Curtis joined Joy Division after meeting up with Bernard Sumner and Peter Hook at a Sex Pistols gig in 1976. After ditching the name "Warsaw" and picking up the name "Joy Division" (named after the brothel from the book "House Of Dolls"), the band skyrocketed when the band released "Unknown Pleasures" in June 15, 1979. In January 1979 Ian was diagnosed with epilepsy after having a seizure on the road while coming back from a gig in London. after being diagnosed, Curtis had to take normal medication, but it would make him worse, especially at shows where Curtis will get into the performance by dancing like if he was having a seizure which later he would having one during the set. Curtis was dealing with a lot of stress and depression (most of it came from his mood swings and his affair with journalist Annik Honoré.), he started writing what he was feeling during the "Closer" sessions. Before the release of JD's second release "Closer", Joy Division would play there last show was on 2 May 1980 at Birmingham University, a show that included Joy Division's first and only performance of the song "Ceremony", later recorded by New Order and released as their first single. The last song Curtis performed on stage was "Digital".
The recording of this performance can be found on the compilation album Still. On 17 May 1980, Curtis (who was dealing with his marriage) was going to visit his Wife, Debbie Curtis, after an argument about keeping the marriage going, Debbie left the house. In the early hours of 18 May 1980, Curtis hanged himself in the kitchen of his house in Macclesfield. He had just viewed Werner Herzog's film Stroszek and listened to Iggy Pop's The Idiot. At the time of his death, his health was failing as a result of the epilepsy and attempting to balance his musical ambitions with his marriage, which was foundering in the aftermath of his affair with journalist Annik Honoré. His wife found his body the next morning. After the death of Ian Curtis, "Closer" released on July 18, 1980. Members of Joy Division continued on playing music and so New Order was born and still going strong.

Wish They Were Still Here: Naiad
Hey everyone.
Welcome to the 2nd post of the Where It Went Music Blog. In This Entry I will be writing about the Japanese metal hardcore band Naiad.
"Naiad. formed in March 2001 in Kyoto, Japan. Nearly three months after the inception of the band, they recorded and released their demo tape. The response to this tape was amazing and led them to a 3 way split on 14 ALL RECORDS. The split, containing 3 awesome Japanese hardcore bands was released in spring 2002. This was the last recording with their old singer. Differences in mentality drove him and the band apart and they decided to go each their own way… Mutsumi became the new vocalist and one new song, recorded with Mutsumi, was released on the EXTEND magazine sampler in Japan. At the beginning of 2003, .naiadn cought the attention of Good Life and got signed in a heartbeat… We’re now July 2003. Their debut MCD ‘Hardcore emotion’ has just been released and they’re about to appear on the Good Life summerfest… Up until now, .naiad. has supported GRADE on their Japan tour, supported FOR DIRE LIFE SAKE on their Japan tour, toured the US for 2 weeks in 2002, being supported by THE LAST YEAR, QUELL and SLEEPING BY THE RIVERSIDE. The shows that have been played in Japan are countless… Expect a lot more from this amazing, young band !!!"
- Bio taken from the Goodlife Recordings Website
I remember the first time I’ve heard of this band was back in high school. Kenny (of Comadre fame) was listening to his cd player during break and he asked me if I was ever interested in listening to Japanese hardcore. I accepted his offer and gave them a listen. What I was listening to was the "Hardcore Emotion" EP and the beginning was one of the mellowest intro's to any hardcore/punk cads. After 2 minutes of mellow sounds, the greatest build-up comes on and I was hooked. By the time I was finish with the 1st track (which is known as the track "Sensuous Tone") we had to go back to class. I asked Kenny to burn me a copy of the ep. When I got my copy, I totally hooked with not only with Naiad, but the hardcore scene that was happening over in the Far East.
After listening to Hardcore Emotion a thousand times. I’ve decided to get my hands on the demo. Since this bad boy has been out of print for a good while, I’ve decided to look for it on soulseek. After finding the demo, I gave it a listen and just like the EP that follows it, I fell in love with this band. The Band has broken up for quite some time now. Not quite sure what the members of naiad are doing now, but I’m hoping it's awesome as hell.
For fans of: Shai Hulud, Poison the Well, and Grade, this band rules.
